Abacus Self-Ordering Kiosk — bank compatibility

Abacus Self-Ordering Kiosk is a self-service kiosk for hospitality, built by Abacus. The mx51-certified twin of the kiosk now badged Nomni — same screen, different directory entry.

Certified on mx51, which is the engine behind several banks’ own terminal offerings rather than something a merchant buys by name.

The mx51 integration uses SPI .NET and was last certified in November 2019, on Windows.

This is a kiosk, not a counter till. It came out of Abacus, founded in Melbourne in 2015 by Peter Ling and Kheam Tan, whose range ran to POS, Android POS, kitchen display, table ordering and self-ordering kiosks for cafes, restaurants, delis, food trucks, grocers and quick service. Named venues on the Abacus site include Din Tai Fung and Milksha.

Abacus is now Nomni. Liven — the Melbourne platform co-founded in 2014 by Grace Wong, William Wong and David Ballerini — announced a $152 million roll-up in July 2023 taking in Abacus, Sydney's Order Up, Singapore's Zeemart and US analytics product Copper. Those brands were brought under the single Nomni name announced on 19 May 2026, and the legal entity behind Abacus changed from Liven Australia Pty Ltd to Nomni Australia Pty Ltd from 1 June 2026. The group now claims more than 35,000 venues across Asia Pacific.

Two practical notes. A kiosk only pays for itself in quick service and fast casual where queue time at peak is the real constraint; it does close to nothing for table service. And because nobody is standing at it, the payment flow has to survive unattended — test declines, cancellations, partial approvals and receipt handling before you sign. This record is the mx51-certified listing; there is a separate Nomni Kiosk record for the same screen under the new badge, and the middleware is what decides which acquirers you can reach.

Abacus also has Abacus.

A POS reaches a bank through middleware. Each card below is one certified route; the banks it reaches are on the middleware page.
