Privacy policy

How we handle personal information, and what to do if you want to see it, correct it or have it deleted.

Last updated: 27 August 2026

Who this covers

This policy applies to CompareEftpos (compareeftpos.com.au) and explains how we handle personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles.

What we collect

We collect only what we need to answer you and to run the site.

When you contact us

If you email us, we receive whatever you choose to send — typically your name, email address, and details about your business and its card payments, such as turnover, transaction volume and current provider.

When you use the site

We use website analytics to understand which pages are read and how people arrive. This may involve cookies or similar technologies and collects information such as your approximate location, device and browser type, pages viewed, and the site you came from. Our fee calculator runs entirely in your browser — the figures you enter are not sent to us or stored.

We do not collect sensitive information as defined by the Privacy Act, and we do not ask for payment card numbers, bank account details or identity documents through this website.

How we use it

  • To answer your enquiry and provide the information you asked for.
  • To introduce you to an EFTPOS provider or broker where you have asked us to, and only with your knowledge.
  • To improve the site's content and understand what readers find useful.
  • To meet our legal and record-keeping obligations.

We do not sell personal information. We do not send marketing email to people who have not asked for it.

Who we share it with

We share personal information only where it is necessary:

  • Payment providers and brokers, where you have asked us to refer you. We tell you who before we do it.
  • Service providers who help us operate the site, such as hosting and analytics providers. Some may store data outside Australia, and we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.
  • Anyone else you direct us to, or where the law requires it.

We may earn a commission on a referral, and we are connected to two EFTPOS brokers. That is set out in full in ourcommercial disclosure.

Keeping it secure, and how long we keep it

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, loss and unauthorised access. This site is served as static files and does not hold a customer database. Enquiry emails are retained only as long as we need them for the purpose they were sent, or as the law requires, and are then deleted.

No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure. If a data breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm, we will respond in line with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme.

Cookies

Cookies are small files a site stores in your browser. We use them for analytics, to understand how the site is used. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, though some parts may behave differently.

Accessing or correcting your information

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We will respond within a reasonable period, and there is no charge for making a request.

If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your personal information or your complaint, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner atoaic.gov.au.
