Retail Manager & New Manager is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Access POS. three generations of one family in cash registers, and it still sells to newsagents.

This one has a real lineage. Access Business Machines started in Rozelle, Sydney, in 1987, founded by Paul Murphy after twenty years working for a cash register company owned by the father of the man who now owns this business. Access POS Pty Ltd was incorporated on 18 December 2001 specifically to buy Access Business Machines' goodwill and assets, and the purchase completed on 1 February 2002. Geoffrey Stott is the sole shareholder and describes himself as third generation in the cash register and POS trade. The company moved to Hunters Hill in late 2004 and is still there.

It began in newsagencies and that is still the spine of it — the site claims over 35 years in newsagency POS — with retail software added around it and NCR Aloha resold for restaurants and quick service. Retail Manager Software is run as a division of Access POS, aimed at gift, convenience, small supermarkets, variety and discount, tobacconists and fruit and veg. Customers run across every Australian state and territory plus PNG, Nauru, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Vanuatu, Noumea and Samoa, which is an unusually Pacific footprint for a business this size.

One thing to be clear on, because the name causes genuine confusion: this Retail Manager is not MYOB RetailManager. Different product, different company. Neither one's site mentions the other, and if you are searching for help with the MYOB product you will end up in the wrong place. Note also that the "35 years" and "almost 40 years" claims date the lineage to the 1987 predecessor, not the 2001 company.
