Hardware Shoptalk POS — bank compatibility

Hardware Shoptalk is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by ACR Business Systems. ShopTALK is the shopfront end of a wholesale distribution suite that's been written in Australia since 1987 — and, like Tower Systems, it now reports to Constellation Software.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

ACR has been building specialised business software in Australia since 1987, and still designs, develops and supports it here. The company's centre of gravity is wholesale distribution rather than retail: consumer goods, food service, and hardware and building supplies. ShopTALK is the retail-trader product in that line-up, which is why it turns up in a hardware store and a builders' merchant more often than in a boutique.

Ownership is the part worth knowing. ACR is now part of Vela APX, a wholly owned subsidiary of Constellation Software (TSX: CSU) — the same Canadian group that picked up Tower Systems in late 2024. Constellation's model is to buy niche software businesses and hold them indefinitely, so the practical read is continuity rather than upheaval. ACR doesn't publish customer numbers or name its founders, so anyone telling you a figure is guessing.

ACR Business Systems also has ACR Shoptalk.
