About ANZ

ANZ runs a non-operating holding company structure: ANZ Group Holdings Limited is the listed parent and Australia and New Zealand Banking Group Limited is the licensed ADI. It holds A$780.91 billion in total residents’ assets on APRA’s July 2026 statistics and reported A$1,313.8 billion in group total assets at 31 March 2026. Its founding year is left blank deliberately — ANZ’s own history cites 1828 heritage, the ANZ name dates from the 1951 merger and the current entity from 1970, and picking one without saying which would be misleading.

ANZ does not acquire on its own banking licence. Australian card acquiring sits in Payment Acceptance Australia Pty Ltd, trading as ANZ Worldline Payment Solutions, which is expressly not an ADI. That entity was formed as a joint venture in 2022 with Worldline holding 51%.

ANZ completed the buy-out of Worldline’s 51% stake on 3 August 2026, at an A$89 million enterprise value on a 51% basis, with around 270 employees transferring to ANZ Group and no change flagged to existing operations. Separately, ANZ owns Suncorp Bank, whose merchant book is closing and being referred into ANZ Worldline — so ANZ’s acquiring footprint is being restructured on two fronts at once.
