Bank of Queensland

Head office:
Newstead, Brisbane, QLD, Australia

Refers merchant business out rather than acquiring — BOQ Specialist routes clients to Tyro Health or Fiserv’s Clover depending on the industry.

About Bank of Queensland

BOQ began in 1874 as The Brisbane Permanent Benefit Building and Investment Society, the first permanent building society in Queensland, and marked 150 years on 1 September 2024. It holds A$109.51 billion in total residents’ assets on APRA’s July 2026 statistics. Its brands are BOQ, ME Bank, Virgin Money Australia, BOQ Specialist and BOQ Finance.

On merchants it refers rather than acquires. BOQ Specialist’s merchant facilities page states that clients access payments through partnerships with Tyro Health or Fiserv’s Clover — Tyro Health for practices needing Medicare and private health fund claiming, Clover for food and beverage, service, retail and agri — and BOQ explicitly disclaims guaranteeing the obligations or performance of either.

BOQ is also a long-standing Fiserv card-processing client, having moved to cloud-based debit card management with Fiserv in 2021. Note the partner model was verified for the BOQ Specialist channel only; whether the mainstream BOQ, ME Bank and Virgin Money brands offer merchant facilities at all could not be established either way.
