Altitude POS — bank compatibility

Altitude is a point-of-sale system for government, built by Civica. Civica's cloud rebuild of Authority — the council platform that Blackstone bought the parent company for in 2024.

Authority Altitude is the SaaS version of Civica Authority, which runs more than 150 councils across Australia and New Zealand. Civica calls it "the next evolution of Authority": same rates and charges, planning and development, utilities and waste billing, infringements, inspections and finance, but delivered from the cloud so councils stop running servers in a back room. Citizen Central, the resident self-service portal, and the Authority Data Warehouse sit alongside it.

Civica itself has been through four owners. It grew out of a 1999 management buy-out from the Sanderson Group, listed on AIM in 2004, went private with 3i in 2008 for £190 million, moved to Partners Group in 2017 at a reported £1.06 billion, and was bought by Blackstone in a deal agreed November 2023 at about US$2.5 billion and completed May 2024. Blackstone describes Civica as one of the UK's largest software companies, with software used by more than 5,000 public bodies.

For payments, the thing to understand is that the counter transaction has to post against a property, an account or an infringement inside Altitude. That is the integration question. Which terminal you put on the desk is secondary to whether it talks cleanly to the receipting module.
