About Discover

The Discover card launched in 1986, and Discover Financial Services was spun off from Morgan Stanley in June 2007. Capital One completed its acquisition of Discover on 18 May 2025 in a transaction valued at approximately US$35.3 billion, and Discover Financial Services shares were delisted; the listed parent is now Capital One Financial Corporation.

Discover Global Network spans three interconnected networks — Discover Network, Diners Club International and PULSE — so a merchant enabled for one typically accepts the others. There is no Discover card issuance in Australia.

Australian acceptance has expanded recently through local acquirers, with Windcave announcing Discover Global Network acceptance and Zeller enabling Discover and Diners across terminals, virtual terminal, payment links and invoices as at March 2026. The commercial case is inbound travel spend. Discover is not RBA-designated and has given no undertaking, so it sits outside the 1 October 2026 surcharging changes.
