FRED NXT is a point-of-sale system for pharmacy retail and retail, built by Fred IT Group. Pharmacy software with the Pharmacy Guild in its DNA, now wholly owned by Telstra Health.
Certified on Linkly and on Tyro. Worth knowing the difference: Tyro is its own acquirer, so that route means banking with Tyro. The Linkly route does not.
Tyro rates it a Premium partner — their top tier.
The Linkly integration runs on premise.
Fred IT is the dominant name in Australian pharmacy IT and the ownership story explains why. The Pharmacy Guild of Australia (Victoria Branch) was in the business for more than 30 years. Telstra Health took a 50 per cent stake in 2013 as a joint venture, then in May 2024 bought the remaining half from the Guild's Victorian branch and co-founder Paul Naismith, who stayed on as CEO.
So a pharmacy running Fred is now running a Telstra Health product. That matters because Fred also sits behind eRx, the electronic prescription exchange, which puts the same company in both the dispensing software and the prescription plumbing.
FRED NXT is the newer cloud-era platform rather than the long-running desktop product. Either way the payment side is the same question every pharmacy has: the dispense system and the till need to be one transaction, not two.
Fred IT Group also has FRED POS and FRED POS PLUS.
