Exceed is a point-of-sale system for hospitality, built by H&L Australia. H&L's flagship till — and the company behind it has been Montreal-owned since 2019.

Certified on both Linkly and mx51, which between them cover most of the acquiring market.

The integration covers pay at table, tipping, cash out, phone and mail order and surcharging.

The Linkly integration runs in the cloud or on premise. Linkly holds 2 separate certified builds for it, so what works depends which one you are on. The mx51 integration uses Spice and was last certified in August 2022, on Windows.

Exceed is H&L's main point-of-sale product, pitched at food and beverage venues that want heavy configuration: training mode, customisable sale screens, menu structures, printer routing. It sits inside H&L's wider stack — Back of House, Order Display Monitor, Workforce Management and Dashboard — so the sell is a whole venue system rather than a till, across hotels, pubs, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cafes, bottle shops, clubs, stadiums and events.

The ownership is the part most venues have not tracked. H&L Australia started around 1987 and spent three decades as an independent Australian hospitality software company under managing director Burt Admiraal, buying South Australia's Bluefrog POS in April 2017 to reach smaller restaurants and cafes. Then in October 2019 Valsoft Corporation, a Montreal vertical-software acquirer, bought H&L outright — its fourth hospitality acquisition — and the business now trades under Valsoft's Aspire Software arm.

The local team and the product stayed, which is Valsoft's usual pattern. But roadmap and pricing decisions answer to Canada now, so if you are signing a multi-year agreement it is fair to ask what has actually shipped since 2019. Note too that this directory carries both Exceed and H&L as separate records — same company, same platform, so do not treat them as competing quotes.

H&L Australia also has H&L.
