H&L is a point-of-sale system for hospitality, built by H&L Australia. Thirty-odd years Australian and independent, then sold to a Montreal software roll-up.

Certified on both Linkly and mx51, which between them cover most of the acquiring market.

It handles tipping, cash out, phone and mail order and surcharging.

The Linkly integration runs on premise. The mx51 integration uses SPI .NET and was last certified in July 2019, on Windows.

H&L Australia is one of the older names in Australian hospitality technology — going since around 1987 and run for more than three decades by managing director Burt Admiraal, selling into hotels, pubs, clubs, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, stadiums and events. The product family covers point of sale, back of house, kitchen display, workforce management and reporting, with Exceed as the flagship POS and older badges including Zen Global, BooKBooK and Sysnet still in the lineage.

It grew by acquisition before it was acquired. In April 2017 it bought Bluefrog POS, a South Australian brand with Adelaide rooms like Chianti, Argo, George's and Andre's Cucina on it, specifically to reach the small-to-medium restaurant and cafe end. Two years later, in October 2019, Valsoft Corporation of Montreal bought H&L and folded it into its Aspire Software operating group, taking Valsoft's hospitality holdings past 6,000.

Worth knowing this directory lists both H&L and Exceed as separate records. They are the same company and the same stack, so if you are collecting quotes, those two are one vendor.

H&L Australia also has Exceed.
