Sixth largest bank in Australia by assets, and a card issuer only — there is no merchant or EFTPOS product anywhere in its Australian range.
About ING Australia
ING launched in Australia in 1999 as ING Direct and appears on APRA’s register as a foreign subsidiary bank. It holds A$124.67 billion in total residents’ assets on APRA’s July 2026 statistics, against consolidated total assets of A$98,551 million at 31 December 2025. Its immediate parent is ING Bank N.V. and its ultimate parent ING Groep N.V. in the Netherlands.
It does not participate in merchant acquiring in Australia. Its product set is retail and small-business deposits and lending — everyday and savings accounts, term deposits, credit cards, personal and home loans, insurance and super, plus Business Optimiser savings, business term deposits and commercial loans. No merchant, EFTPOS or card-acceptance product appears anywhere in the range, and its 2025 annual report makes no mention of merchant acquiring.
ING is therefore an issuer — Visa debit and Orange One credit cards — and not an acquirer. ING Wholesale Banking markets merchant commerce solutions globally, but that is not an ING Bank (Australia) Limited offer.
