Connect is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Intelligent Retail. A Berkshire EPoS system that an Island Pacific-backed group bought in 2013 — which is how a UK product ended up certified here.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

Intelligent Retail is based in Newbury, Berkshire, and built Connect as a multichannel system for independent retailers: in-store EPoS, your own website, mail order, telephone orders and marketplaces like eBay and Amazon, all run from one interface, with Sage on the accounting side. The company says hundreds of independent retailers worldwide use it.

The ownership is the interesting part. In May 2013 Intelligent Retail was sold to 3Q Holdings, the group behind Island Pacific, which supplies omni-channel systems to much bigger retailers — Primark, Hamleys, Karen Millen, The Dune Group and The Entertainer among them. Island Pacific does the large chains, Intelligent Retail does the independents, and both were described at the time as family businesses. That deal is also why Connect was pushed into Australia and New Zealand and why partners were recruited here.

The pitch for a small shop is one stock pool behind the counter and the website, rather than reconciling two. Worth testing how current the Australian support arrangement is before you buy a UK-developed product on the strength of a 2013 acquisition.

Intelligent Retail also has Intelligent Retail.
