iCashier POS — bank compatibility

iCashier is a point-of-sale system for hospitality, built by Intercard. American, out of St. Louis, and it claims to have put the first debit card system into the amusement industry back in 1989.

Intercard was established in 1979 and is headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. Its claim to fame is specific and plausible: "In 1989 we introduced the first debit card system to the amusement industry." If you have ever tapped a card on an arcade machine instead of feeding it tokens, this is the company that started that idea commercially.

What it sells is cloud-based facility management for entertainment and leisure venues — debit card management, RFID readers, POS, cash management, marketing, loyalty programs and redemption processing. The consumer-facing product is the Intercard Fun Card, loaded with cash and bonus value. The customer types are amusement parks, family entertainment centres, movie theatres and cruise lines, and the business is genuinely global: in one recent stretch it reported installs across eight countries, Australia and New Zealand among them, alongside Colombia, Egypt, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar.

The iCashier is the staffed card-sales and reload terminal — the counter where a customer buys or tops up a play card. That is why the payment side behaves unlike a cafe till. The money goes onto stored value rather than against a product, so the reconciliation that matters is card issuance and float against takings, and the peak is brutal and short: a school holiday rush where a queue at the card counter is lost revenue across the whole venue. Throughput and uptime are worth more here than a few basis points.
