dPOSit POS is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Island Pacific. Dates back to 1977, and the merchandising business behind it was sold off to an Australian listed company for $16 million in 2007 while the US parent kept the Retail Pro name.
Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.
The Linkly integration runs on premise.
Island Pacific is a retail software company founded in 1977, which makes it one of the oldest names still trading in retail merchandising. Its ownership history is genuinely tangled and worth knowing. In November 2007 the US-listed Island Pacific announced it had agreed to sell the Island Pacific Merchandising System — its i5/OS ERP for multi-channel retailers — to Australian company 3Q Holdings for $16 million. The US parent then concentrated on its Windows POS product and took the Retail Pro name, moving its headquarters from Irvine, California to La Jolla. Chief executive Barry Schechter's reasoning at the time: "The IPMS division operates in a different segment of the retail industry to Retail Pro."
That was not 3Q's first bite. In April 2006 Island Pacific had already sold 3Q its Applied Retail Solutions arm and the OnePoint POS product. 3Q Holdings — formerly Acuity Investment Management — was assembling a portfolio of POS and back-office products across Asia-Pacific and North America, and had also bought QQQ Systems and the New Zealand developer AdvanceRetail Technology. AdvanceRetail now sits in the Vela APX portfolio, part of Toronto-listed Constellation Software, and so does a company listed as Island Pacific.
What Island Pacific sells today is a merchandising and retail operations platform, SmartSuite, alongside merchandise management, order management, business intelligence, SmartPlanning, SmartOmni and a product it calls Retail Robot. Global head office is Santa Ana, California, with EMEA in Saffron Walden in Essex and a site in Chennai. The customer logos skew large and international: Primark, American Eagle Outfitters, Urban Outfitters, Aéropostale, Monsoon Accessorize, Dune London and Big 5 Sporting Goods. The point for a merchant is that this is a merchandising system first — the till is a module on the end of it, so the EFTPOS conversation starts with what the POS component supports, not what the platform can theoretically do.
Island Pacific also has SmartStore 5 - and SmartStore.
