SmartStore 5 - is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Island Pacific. A specific build of the store module from a merchandising house founded in 1977 — and a reminder to check which version you are actually licensed on.

Certified on Linkly, running in the cloud. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs in the cloud.

Island Pacific was founded in 1977 and sells enterprise retail merchandising rather than a simple till. The ownership trail is worth following: in November 2007 the US-listed Island Pacific agreed to sell the Island Pacific Merchandising System to Australian company 3Q Holdings for $16 million, after which the US parent took the Retail Pro name and moved from Irvine, California to La Jolla. In April 2006 it had already sold 3Q its Applied Retail Solutions arm and the OnePoint POS product. 3Q Holdings — formerly Acuity Investment Management — also owned QQQ Systems and New Zealand's AdvanceRetail Technology, and AdvanceRetail today sits in the Vela APX portfolio under Toronto-listed Constellation Software, where a company listed as Island Pacific also appears.

Today the platform is sold as SmartSuite: merchandising and retail operations, order management, analytics and omnichannel across stores, warehouses and digital channels, with merchandise management, order management, business intelligence, SmartPlanning, SmartOmni and Retail Robot around it. Offices are Santa Ana in California, Saffron Walden in Essex and Chennai. The customer logos are big international specialty and fashion chains: Primark, American Eagle Outfitters, Urban Outfitters, Aéropostale, Monsoon Accessorize, Dune London, Big 5 Sporting Goods.

One practical warning on a version-pinned record like this. Enterprise retail software of this vintage gets deployed and then sits, sometimes for a decade, and the integration certifications attach to specific builds. Before you commit to a terminal arrangement, confirm with Island Pacific which release your stores are actually on and what payment integration that release supports, rather than assuming the current product sheet applies.

Island Pacific also has dPOSit POS and SmartStore.
