SmartStore is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Island Pacific. The store end of a merchandising platform that has been going since 1977 and has changed hands more times than most of its customers realise.
Certified on Linkly, running in the cloud. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.
The Linkly integration runs in the cloud.
Island Pacific is a retail software company founded in 1977, and the corporate history behind it is unusually busy. In November 2007 the US-listed Island Pacific agreed to sell the Island Pacific Merchandising System to Australian company 3Q Holdings for $16 million. The US parent kept its Windows POS business, renamed itself Retail Pro and shifted from Irvine, California to La Jolla. Barry Schechter, then chief executive, explained it as a focus call: "The IPMS division operates in a different segment of the retail industry to Retail Pro." A year and a half earlier, in April 2006, Island Pacific had already sold 3Q its Applied Retail Solutions business and the OnePoint POS product.
3Q Holdings, previously Acuity Investment Management, was building a POS and back-office portfolio across Asia-Pacific and North America and had also picked up QQQ Systems and New Zealand's AdvanceRetail Technology. AdvanceRetail is today part of Vela APX, the operating group of Toronto-listed Constellation Software, and a company listed as Island Pacific appears in that same portfolio.
The current range is sold around SmartSuite, a merchandising and retail operations platform covering order management, analytics and omnichannel across stores, warehouses and digital channels, with merchandise management, planning, business intelligence and Retail Robot alongside it. Head office is Santa Ana in California, with EMEA in Essex and a team in Chennai. Named customers run to Primark, American Eagle Outfitters, Urban Outfitters, Aéropostale, Monsoon Accessorize, Dune London and Big 5 Sporting Goods — large fashion and specialty chains, not single stores. If you are running this, you are running enterprise retail software, and the terminal decision is downstream of how the store module is deployed.
Island Pacific also has dPOSit POS and SmartStore 5 -.
