Merlin POS — bank compatibility

Point-of-sale system by Merlin Software · All point-of-sale systems

  • retail

Merlin POS is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Merlin Software. The older badge on the same Australian family-owned system, which has been sold to rural retailers since 1981.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

Merlin Software Pty Ltd has built retail management systems since 1981 and calls itself an Australian family business, Australian made and owned. Its current product branding is Cobalt RMS, with integrated sales, inventory, accounting, payroll, workshop and online store modules running on-premises or in a private cloud. Louise Garland is managing director.

Where it is strong is rural. The named reference customers are co-operatives and rural supply stores — CEPA Co-operative, Bade Ness Rural, Frankland Rural — the kind of business that runs account customers on terms, a servicing workshop, and a stock range from fencing wire to animal health. The workshop and accounts-receivable depth is the reason a store picks this over a mainstream cloud POS, not the look of the screen.

There are two Merlin records in this dataset, this one through Linkly and Cobalt Retail through mx51. The middleware is what determines which acquirers you can reach, so establish which one a quote is based on before comparing it to anything else.

Merlin Software also has Cobalt Retail.
