Micros is a point-of-sale system for hospitality, built by Micros Fidelio. An Oracle product now — Oracle paid US$5.3 billion for Micros in 2014 and folded it into Oracle Hospitality.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

Micros is one of the oldest names in hospitality tills. The company was incorporated in 1977 as Picos Manufacturing and renamed Micros Systems in 1978, out of Columbia, Maryland. By 2003 analysts put it at roughly 35% of the restaurant point-of-sale market. Oracle announced in June 2014 that it would pay US$68 a share — about US$5.3 billion, or US$4.6 billion net of Micros' cash — and had the deal wrapped up by September that year.

At the time of the acquisition Micros products were running at more than 330,000 sites worldwide and the company had over 6,600 staff. Oracle renamed the business Oracle Food and Beverage and Oracle Hospitality, still based in Columbia, and put it under the executive who ran Oracle's retail unit. So if you are on Micros today, your POS vendor is Oracle: pricing, support and roadmap are Oracle's, and the current line runs under the Oracle MICROS badge.

Most venues still just call it Micros, which is why the ownership catches people out at renewal. Worth raising with whoever quotes you, because an Oracle contract and a local POS reseller contract are very different documents.

Micros Fidelio also has Micros Fidelio.
