MSC POS is a point-of-sale system for education, built by My School Connect. A school canteen till from a Carrum Downs company that started life as a childcare app.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

My School Connect began in 2013. The founder, Rob, had launched an online childcare app the year before and saw the same opening in school tuckshops, which in most schools were still being run by parents on a not-for-profit basis. The company works out of Levida Drive in Carrum Downs, in Melbourne's south-east, and says the number of schools using it has roughly doubled every six months.

The POS is the counter end of that. A cashier scans a student ID card, QR code or RFID tag, or searches by name; the screen shows whatever spending restrictions a parent has set and flags the student's allergies before the sale goes through. Menus sync daily from the school's MSC account, it is PIN-protected, it works online or offline, and it drives an mx51 EFTPOS unit directly.

It is pitched at larger secondary schools, though primaries use it too, and at independently run school stores — uniform shops and book stores. Allergy alerts and parent-set spending limits at the point of sale are not things a general retail POS does, and that is the entire argument for buying vertical software in this category.

My School Connect also has My School Connect.
