Aloha is a point-of-sale system for hospitality, built by NCR. Three owners deep: built by Aloha Technologies in Dallas, bought by Radiant Systems, then by NCR for US$1.2 billion, and now sitting inside NCR Voyix.
Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.
The Linkly integration runs on premise.
Aloha is the restaurant POS most American chains have run at some point, and the ownership chain explains why it feels like a product with layers. Aloha Technologies, out of Dallas, built it. Radiant Systems — an Atlanta company founded in 1985 — acquired Aloha Technologies in 2004. NCR announced its purchase of Radiant in July 2011 for US$1.2 billion and closed it that August.
NCR itself dates to 1884, when it was the National Cash Register Company in Ohio; the trade press calls it the godfather of restaurant point of sale. In October 2023 NCR split in two — NCR Voyix took the restaurant and retail technology business, NCR Atleos took the ATMs — so Aloha now lives inside Voyix. That business had a rough run around the split, with revenue down 12.5% to US$2.8 billion, which it attributed mainly to slowing hardware demand, and it is under real pressure from cloud-native rivals. James Kelly came in as CEO in February.
For an Australian merchant the honest read is this. Aloha is a global enterprise product with deep chain functionality and a very long support history, used by large chains and independents alike. But the vendor's centre of gravity is North America and the company is mid-reinvention. If you are a single venue, local vendors will be closer to you and cheaper to deal with. If you are a franchise group already running Aloha offshore, the real question is which Australian middleware and acquirer your specific build supports — ask before you assume the offshore setup transfers.
NCR also has ETRANS and NCR Cinema POS.
