NCR Cinema POS is a point-of-sale system for hospitality, built by NCR. Part of a 139-year-old American giant that split itself in two in 2023 — the cinema and hospitality side went to NCR Voyix.

NCR is one of the oldest names in the business — a company with more than 130 years of history behind it when, in July 2023, it announced it was breaking itself into two listed companies. The digital commerce business became NCR Voyix, led by David Wilkinson, and the ATM business became NCR Atleos under Tim Oliver. The separation was expected to complete in the fourth quarter of 2023. NCR Voyix's own remit is described as continuing to transform, connect and run global retail, hospitality and digital banking technology platforms, which is where a cinema POS deployment sits.
The naming exercise says something about the scale of the thing. Branding consultancy Interbrand ran it, 12,000 employees were consulted, and chief marketing officer Jennifer Personette said they "took the responsibility of renaming a company with more than 130 years of history very seriously." Chief executive Michael D. Hayford explained Voyix as a nod to the voyage customers describe in their journeys with NCR. The company kept the NCR letters because stakeholders told it to.
What that means if you run a cinema on this: your vendor is a large American listed company that has just restructured, and the product is one line in a portfolio spanning retail, hospitality and banking. Cinema POS has its own demands — concession queues that empty in ten minutes around session times, ticketing tied to seat inventory, and loyalty that spans both. Terminal throughput at the candy bar is the thing that actually costs you money, so that is where the conversation should start, and the integration question is which NCR Voyix release your site is on.
