Simphony is a point-of-sale system for hospitality, built by Oracle. This is MICROS with an Oracle badge on it — Oracle paid about US$5.3 billion for the company in 2014 and the product kept its name.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

Simphony is the restaurant POS that used to be MICROS. The company was incorporated in 1977 as Picos Manufacturing, renamed Micros Systems in 1978 — the name is an acronym for Modular Integrated Cash Register Operating Systems — and ran out of Columbia, Maryland. By 2003 analysts put it at roughly 35% of the restaurant point of sale market. Oracle announced the takeover in June 2014 at US$68 a share, about US$5.3 billion, and folded it into Oracle Food and Beverage and Oracle Hospitality. That unit is still based in Columbia.

MICROS got that big partly by buying: Indatec in 2001, Datavantage in 2003, JTECH in 2005, CommercialWare in 2006, Fry in 2008, TIG Global in 2010, Snow Valley in 2011 and Torex in 2012. What you are buying today is enterprise software sold by Oracle, and that shapes everything — it is built for chains and hotels with the complexity to justify it, it is sold and implemented through Oracle's channel, and the contract is an Oracle contract. For a single café it is the wrong end of the market entirely.

On payments, the detail that matters in Australia is that Simphony reaches local terminals through a bridge rather than natively. Linkly publishes a Bridge for Oracle on Oracle Cloud Marketplace covering Simphony 2.9 and later, running over either the Simphony Payment Interface (SPI) or the Oracle Payment Interface (OPI). Linkly's own line is blunt about what that unlocked: customers of CBA, Westpac, NAB and ANZ could not pay through an integrated Simphony till before that integration existed.

Oracle also has Oracle Simphony 19.3 via Linkly Bridge for Oracle, Simphony First Edition and SIMPHONY - SPI.
