Retail Management System (PRMS) is a point-of-sale system for pharmacy, built by POS Works. Fifteen people, one product, and more than 300 pharmacies moved onto it.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

POS Works was founded in 2003 to build a real-time corporate POS, and its product — the POS Works Retail Management System, PRMS — first shipped in late 2008. The company runs at about 15 staff, mostly developers, split between retail systems and customer-facing mobile applications.

Pharmacy is where it landed. Between 2008 and 2014 POS Works converted more than 300 pharmacies onto PRMS, and it has customers in every Australian state. Pharmacy POS is its own problem — the dispensing software leads and the till has to fit in behind it — so a specialist with a few hundred sites is a sensible thing to be.

The trade-off is the obvious one with a vendor this size. You get people who actually know the software and can change it, and there is no second product to fall back on if the first one stalls. Ask about the development roadmap and who holds the code before you commit a multi-store group to it.

POS Works also has POS Works.
