Store Management System (SMS) is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Retail Directions. The in-store half of a Melbourne platform that runs Just Group and Nike stores.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

Retail Directions describes its core product as a store management system handling front-end and back-end operations plus communication with head office — so SMS is the shop-floor end of a chain retail platform, not a standalone POS you would buy for one site.

The company was founded in Melbourne in 1993 by Andrew Gorecki and ran at about 50 people with a 24/7 support centre. Customers over the years have included The Just Group (Just Jeans, Portmans, Dotti, Peter Alexander), Nike, Harris Scarfe, Cotton On, Forever New, Noni B, Jeans West, kikki.K, Kookai and Bendon, plus The Body Shop in the UK from 2001 and later across Europe.

Buying read: if you are a single store comparing this against a café POS, you are in the wrong aisle. This is head-office software that happens to include a till. Version 3.9.8.1 in the certification register also suggests a long-lived on-premise codebase rather than something cloud-native.

Retail Directions also has Retail Directions.
