S8POS — bank compatibility

S8POS is a point-of-sale system for cafes, hospitality, quick service and restaurants, and 1 more, built by Shift8. A Haymarket outfit that only really sells to franchisors and multi-site brands.

Certified on mx51 and on Tyro. Worth knowing the difference: Tyro is its own acquirer, so that route means banking with Tyro. The mx51 route does not.

It handles split bills, phone and mail order and surcharging. Tyro rates it a Plus partner.

The mx51 integration uses SPI .NET or SPI iOS and was last certified in October 2023, on Windows and iOS. mx51 holds 2 separate certified builds for it, so what works depends which one you are on.

S8POS is Shift8's point of sale, running on iPad and Windows, out of Cunningham Street in Haymarket, Sydney. The company's whole positioning is multi-site: robust POS plus integrated loyalty for franchise groups and brands with many stores, built for high-volume quick service where order throughput is the only metric that matters.

The centre of the product is head-office control — menus, pricing, loyalty and reporting run for every store from one place. Around it they sell loyalty apps on iOS, Android and web, online ordering, kiosks and payments.

Which tells you who should and should not look at this. If you are a single cafe, the head-office machinery is overhead you will pay for and never use. If you are a franchisor trying to stop twelve stores running twelve different price lists, that machinery is exactly the thing you are buying.
