Sym-Pac for Windows is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Sym-Pac Computing. Warragul-based since 1991, and quietly owned by Constellation Software — the Canadian group that buys niche software and never sells it.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

Sympac Solutions has been writing software for Australian hardware, timber and building-materials merchants since 1991, out of Neilson Court in Warragul, Victoria. Thirty-plus years in the same niche, a long way from the Melbourne POS cluster.

Ownership is the bit most merchants have missed. Sympac is part of Constellation Software through Vela APX. Constellation is the Toronto-listed group that buys small vertical-market software businesses and holds them indefinitely, so the Gippsland company running your timber yard answers, ultimately, to a Canadian conglomerate. That matters mostly for what it predicts: Constellation companies rarely get shut down, and they rarely get cheap either.

The market it serves is timber, tools and hardware, industrial and construction supply, electrical appliance and furniture retail, the rural sector, and buying groups and independents. Trade counter work — customer-specific pricing, account sales, yard stock — not fashion boutiques.

Sym-Pac Computing also has Sym-Pac for Windows XP.
