Atria POS — bank compatibility
Point-of-sale system by W W Wedderburn · All point-of-sale systems
- butchers and grocers
Atria POS is a point-of-sale system for butchers and grocers, built by W W Wedderburn. The POS arm of a scales company that has been trading since 1896.
Certified on Linkly and on Tyro. Worth knowing the difference: Tyro is its own acquirer, so that route means banking with Tyro. The Linkly route does not.
Certified for split bills and cash out. Tyro rates it a Power Up partner.
The Linkly integration runs on premise.
Atria POS comes from Wedderburn, and Wedderburn is not a software company — it is a 130-year-old weighing business. Jabez William Wedderburn started it in Sydney in 1896 at 88 Liverpool Street, working as a coal miner, wharfie and professional runner while he built it. His son Walter ran it, then Bill Wedderburn took over in 1965. Manufacturing moved through Redfern and Chippendale, then Summer Hill in 1970, and the head office is at Ingleburn in NSW since 2010. Melbourne opened in 1977 and a sister company in Auckland in the 1990s.
The product history explains what Atria actually is. Wedderburn was first to supply decimal-currency scales in Australia in the 1960s, moved into electronic weighing through a DIGI partnership in the 1970s, started supplying the major supermarket chains in 1984, added labels in 1987, packaging equipment in 1995, and then printers, POS and food equipment between 2002 and 2008. So the POS arrived last, built around the weighing and labelling business it sits beside.
That is the thing worth knowing before you quote it: if you are a butcher, deli, grocer or supermarket department where the scale, the label printer and the till need to agree with each other, that single-vendor story is the whole pitch. If you are a fashion boutique, it is the wrong shop.
Scale, for context: the Wedderburn group runs 10 branches in New Zealand and 19 in Australia with around 300 staff between them, still family-owned. The New Zealand arm opened in 1990. They also sell electronic shelf labels and digital signage, so the one-vendor pitch extends past the till to the shelf edge.
W W Wedderburn also has Elite POS.
