Acumen is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Acumen Computer Systems. A Geelong family software company that started in 1974 as a time-sharing bureau on PDP-11s and never left town.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise. Linkly holds 2 separate certified builds for it, so what works depends which one you are on.

Acumen Computer Systems began life in 1974 as the Geelong Time-Sharing Centre, running online bureau accounting and software development on PDP-11 hardware for clients across Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and regional centres beyond. It moved to in-house development on IBM personal computers in the early 1980s, built the Acumen point-of-sale and accounting package for Windows in the late 1980s, and renamed itself Acumen Computer Systems in 1999 — the same year senior developer Keith Fotheringham became a partner after thirteen years with the business.

It is still family-run and still in Geelong. The milestones since: MainTrak maintenance tracking built on the Acumen foundation in 1995; a contract in 2000 to roll the system out to every Ted's Cameras store nationally; a two-stage rebuild of the software across 2014 to 2016; and the AcuScan mobile app for iOS, iPadOS and Android in 2022. The markets are retail and wholesale distribution, manufacturing, government services and trade businesses.

Fifty years in one regional city, through PDP-11s to a phone app, is the story. Acumen doesn't publish a customer count, so anyone quoting you one is guessing.
