Apparel21 is a point-of-sale system for retail. Runs the back end for Accent Group, Decjuba, MJ Bale and Aquila — about one in five clothing and footwear shopfronts in this market.

Certified on mx51, which is the engine behind several banks’ own terminal offerings rather than something a merchant buys by name.

Certified for phone and mail order and surcharging.

The mx51 integration uses SPI Java and was last certified in November 2022, on Windows.

Apparel21 does one thing: ERP for fashion, clothing and footwear. Retail back office and POS, wholesale, production planning and costing, reporting, plus Envimo mobile POS for taking orders on the shop floor and Connect for pushing stock to Shopify, The Iconic, Macy's and eBay. Forty-odd years in and it has become the default for mid-to-large Australian fashion: Accent Group, Brand Collective, Retail Apparel Group, Aje, Decjuba, MJ Bale, Aquila, General Pants Co and APG & Co are all on its client list.

The scale claims are specific enough to be worth repeating: more than 125 fashion retailers, over 3,000 retail locations managed, and roughly 20% of clothing and footwear shopfronts. It reports a 97% client retention rate and holds ISO 27001 certification. It has recently started selling into the UK.

Ownership is Vela Software Group, operating through Vela APX, which is part of Toronto-listed Constellation Software. Same group as Tower Systems, Surefire, ACR, AdvanceRetail and Island Pacific. For a fashion retailer the practical point is that Apparel21 is a merchandising and wholesale system first and a till second — the EFTPOS conversation has to start with what the POS module supports, not what the ERP can theoretically do.
