aptos is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Microchannel. an American enterprise retail platform, resold here by a company that has been a Fujifilm subsidiary since 2023.
Certified on mx51, which is the engine behind several banks’ own terminal offerings rather than something a merchant buys by name.
The mx51 integration uses Spice and was last certified in July 2023, on Windows.
Two companies to keep straight on this record. Aptos is the product: enterprise retail software — POS, merchandising, order management — built in Atlanta, Georgia and used by more than 1,000 retail brands. Microchannel is the Australian partner that implements it.
Aptos has changed hands twice. It was Epicor's retail division until 2015, when funds advised by Apax Partners backed chief executive Noel Goggin in spinning it out as a standalone company under the Aptos name. On 13 January 2020, funds affiliated with Goldman Sachs' Merchant Banking Division reached a definitive agreement to buy Aptos from the Apax funds.
Microchannel has changed hands too, and more recently. Founded in 1995, it is an ERP and IT implementer — Microsoft, SAP, Sage — with offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Auckland and Singapore, and more than 100 awards to its name. Fujifilm Business Innovation announced the acquisition on 28 February 2023, and from 1 March 2023 the company became FUJIFILM MicroChannel Services Pty Ltd. So the vendor name on this record is out of date: the till is American and Goldman-owned, and the people installing it work for Fujifilm.
