Attekus is a point-of-sale system for education and government. bootstrapped for seven years by two ex-TechnologyOne staff, then took $5m and went after councils.

Certified on Linkly, running in the cloud. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs in the cloud.

Attekus was founded in Brisbane in 2017 by Tom Muller and Andrew Cutler, who had worked together at TechnologyOne. It launched as Bookable — venue and facility booking — and grew into a family of products covering bookings, events, ticketing and Attekus Payments, with an integration back into TechnologyOne's ERP. The customers are local councils, government agencies, education providers, associations and commercial venues. By its own current count it is on more than 140 organisations across Australia and New Zealand.

It ran on its own money for seven years before raising A$5 million in October 2024, its first external round, led by Five V Venture Capital with QIC Ventures alongside. At that point it served close to 20 per cent of ANZ councils and more than 80 councils nationally, and Five V's Chris Gillings said the business had yet to lose a customer. The money was earmarked for the UK council market and for ANZ education and government. Five V holds a minority stake; there is no acquisition on record. Muller on the bootstrapping years: "My co-founder Andrew and I chose to build and grow Attekus in a way that ensured we could survive without external funding."

One correction to how this record is categorised: Attekus is booking and venue management software, not a point of sale in the counter-till sense. It takes payments because bookings and tickets need paying for. If you are after a till for a cafe, this is not it — but if you run a council leisure facility or a hireable venue, the booking engine is the product and the payment is the tail end of it. Note also the site itself talks about payment gateways rather than EFTPOS.
