Baseplan POS — bank compatibility

Baseplan is a point-of-sale system, built by Baseplan Software. Equipment hire ERP rather than a till, and since 2018 it has belonged to Canada's Constellation Software.

Baseplan started in 1986 when Andrew Ferry set up Ferry Computing Services out of a home office; it became Baseplan Software in 1987. It is an ERP for equipment rental and hire — sales, rentals, service, parts, financials and CRM — sold into heavy equipment, aerial and access, forklift, scaffolding, pump and power, construction and dealership businesses. Point of sale is one module inside it, added to the product in 2003, and a customer testimonial calls it the "simplified point of sale module". Head office is Thornleigh in Sydney, with a North American office in Houston opened in 2013.

In September 2018 it was acquired by Volaris Group, an operating group of Constellation Software (TSX: CSU). No price was ever published. Volaris's own case study says profitability has more than tripled since, with the management team intact and customer attrition at its lowest level. Baseplan now sits inside a rental-software roll-up alongside Wynne Systems, InTempo, RentalResult, UBS and Windward — Volaris runs around 120 software companies across more than 30 markets and says it has never sold a business.

Named customers include Kennards Hire, Coates, JLG Industries, Linde Material Handling, Allcott Hire and Porter Group USA. The two biggest general hire names in Australia are on that list, which tells you where it sits. It does not publish a current customer count; the only hard figure on its own timeline is its 100th Australian customer, reached in 2005.
