Cegid Retail Y2 FO/BO POS — bank compatibility

Cegid Retail Y2 FO/BO is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Cegid. French, enormous, and the till behind a lot of the luxury and specialty brands in Australian shopping centres.

Certified on mx51, which is the engine behind several banks’ own terminal offerings rather than something a merchant buys by name.

The integration covers phone and mail order.

The mx51 integration uses SPI .NET and was last certified in October 2024, on Windows.

Cegid Retail Y2 is a POS and unified-commerce platform for specialty retailers; the FO/BO pairing is the front-office till and the back-office that sits behind it. Cegid puts it at more than 1,000 retailers and over 85,000 stores globally, with Lacoste, Benetton, Superdry, Hugo Boss, Christian Louboutin, The Kooples, Gant and Vivienne Westwood among the brands running on it. Around the till sit centralised real-time inventory, mobile performance dashboards, an AI-assisted store task app and an e-wallet module for gift cards, vouchers and loyalty in Apple and Google Wallet.

Cegid itself started in Lyon in 1983, as an idea of Jean-Michel Aulas — better known in France as the long-serving president of Olympique Lyonnais. It has become one of the largest software companies in France: Silver Lake took a majority stake in 2016, and in mid-2021 KKR bought a minority at a €5.5bn valuation, described at the time as the second-largest leveraged buyout in French history. Revenue went from just over €300m in 2016 to close to €500m four years later, with roughly 3,600 staff.

Read the scale as a filter. This is enterprise specialty-retail software bought by brands with stores in multiple countries. A single-site retailer comparing it against Lightspeed or Square is comparing products built for different problems.
