Cignall Scan is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Cignall. A tobacconist franchise, not a software company — 250-odd stores that started life in Victoria as Tobacco Dome.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

Cignall was formed in 2000, originally trading as Tobacco Dome, with ten stores in Victoria. It now runs over 250 franchised locations and has pushed well out of Victoria into New South Wales, Queensland, the ACT, Northern Territory, Tasmania and Western Australia. The stores sell cigarettes, tobacco, cigars and accessories, and most run sidelines in key cutting and Parcel Point parcel collection, plus a Club Cignall loyalty program. A franchise-industry listing gives over 230 franchisees across four states, which does not quite square with the company's own 250-plus across seven jurisdictions — franchisee counts and store counts are not the same thing.

Ownership is opaque, and we tried hard on it. The franchisor entity appears on the trade mark register as Cignall Pty Ltd in Victoria, which filed 'Cignall Specialist Tobacconist' in June 2024, and the company publishes no head-office address, legal entity or ABN on its own site. We could find no shareholder, parent, acquisition, price or date anywhere. Worth clearing up one common mix-up while we are here: Tobacco Station Group is a different chain — over 340 outlets, put up for sale through Pitcher Partners in December 2015 — and nothing we found connects the two businesses.

For this record the useful conclusion is that 'Cignall Scan' is almost certainly the franchise's own in-store scanning and till setup, not software sold to anybody else. If you are a Cignall franchisee asking which banks your terminal can reach, that is a question for the franchisor's IT arrangements rather than for a POS vendor you can shop around.
