ClickPOS App is a point-of-sale system for bars and pubs, hospitality, quick service and restaurants. A Port Melbourne software house from 1993 whose day job is mobile phone retail — the iPad hospitality app is the side it is less known for.

Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.

ClickPOS was established in 1993 as a software house in Port Melbourne and put out one of the first cloud retail POS products available to the general public in 1999. Its core market is telecommunications retail, and it has done franchise work with Telstra and Vodafone. That side of the product does things a normal till has no concept of: IMEI selection on the sale screen, serialised stock and stocktakes, batch processing by pasting handset IMEIs or mobile numbers, plan sales that calculate expected carrier remuneration, carrier revenue reconciliation, repairs and loan device tracking, and Epay recharge top-ups.

The ClickPOS App is the other side of the house: an iPad POS for food and drink, with counter, phone and online orders, and a free add-on called FoodPOD, their own customer ordering app aimed at Australian takeaway shops. The company also sells into apparel, jewellery, service and repair, and dry cleaning and laundromats. So the Tyro listing's hospitality tags — bars and pubs, quick service, restaurants — are right about this product while being a poor description of the company.

Why that matters to you: a vendor whose hardest engineering problem is carrier commission reconciliation is a vendor with 30-plus years of stock and workflow depth, and also one whose hospitality product is not its main revenue. Ask who supports the iPad app and how many food sites are live on it. Tyro certifies it at Power Up tier.
