Core Practice is practice-management software for dental and health. Cloud dental software going since 2014, and the reviews are blunt about bugs and about how hard it is to get your data back out again.

Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.

It handles HealthPoint private health claiming and multi-merchant. Tyro rates it a Plus partner.

Core Practice is cloud-based dental practice management software — appointments, clinical charting, patient records, imaging and x-rays, confirmations and reminders, and billing — founded in 2014 and run by Core Practice Pty Ltd under CEO Mark Burns. Because it is cloud, there is no server sitting in the practice, and it connects out to Xero and MYOB Business for the accounting. In August 2024 it became Healthengine's twentieth practice management integration, which lets a practice publish its open appointments to Healthengine's patient network automatically.

Be careful calling this a POS, because it is not one. It is clinical software that happens to take the payment at the front desk, and in dental the thing that actually decides your day is the claiming — how fast a patient can settle a gap and walk out. Confirm directly which claiming rails your build supports and through which terminal before you commit, because that is where a practice loses or saves time on every single appointment.

The reviews are worth reading before you sign. On Capterra it sits at 2.7 out of 5 from six reviews, with 40% likelihood to recommend. That is a small sample so do not over-read it, but the complaints are consistent and specific: bugs, slow support, complicated workflows, and difficulty exporting data when moving to another provider. Press them on that last one in writing, because data portability in clinical software is the difference between a hard migration and an impossible one. Listed pricing starts around US$240 a month per location for two practitioners, billed in US dollars — which is a currency exposure an Australian practice should price in rather than ignore.

Health claiming at the terminal

Certified through Tyro for Tyro HealthPoint. Tyro is its own acquirer, so claiming through the terminal means banking with Tyro.

Connected through

A POS reaches a bank through middleware. Each card below is one certified route; the banks it reaches are on the middleware page.
