Cybertill CharityStore is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Cybertill. Charity shop software built around Gift Aid, in roughly a third of UK charity shops — and sold to a Canadian acquirer in 2024.
Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.
The Linkly integration runs on premise.
Cybertill was founded by Ian Tomlinson in 2001 — the company was actually incorporated in June 2000 as Abacus EPOS Limited and renamed the following January — and is headquartered at Knowsley on Merseyside, with an Australian office in South Yarra, Victoria. CharityStore is its charity-specific cloud EPOS and retail management platform, and the thing that makes it a category of its own is Gift Aid. It ships four distinct Gift Aid offerings including electronic donor sign-up at the till or on a tablet, with one central database so a donor who signs up in one shop is recognised in all the others, and donated stock tracked from donation through to sale.
It also does the small things charity retail actually needs: lottery ticket sales at the till, and a Round Up donation feature the company says has raised GBP5.5 million for its charity customers since 2021. Named users include PDSA, Cancer Research UK, Dogs Trust, British Red Cross, Sense, Oxfam and the Natural History Museum. Cybertill describes CharityStore as used in around a third of UK and Irish charity shops, though its own published counts — 250-plus charities on one page, 400-plus charity and hospice retailers on the same page — do not agree with each other, so treat any precise figure with care. Group-wide it claims over 700 customers across 7,500-plus locations.
The ownership change is not announced anywhere on the website, but it is on the UK register: Valsoft UK Holdings Limited became the controlling shareholder of Cybertill Group Limited on 25 July 2024, with founder Ian Tomlinson and Merseyside Special Investment Venture Fund 3 LP both ceasing as controllers the same day. Valsoft is a Montreal-based software acquirer. The brand, the product names and the Merseyside office all continue.
