Dinerware POS — bank compatibility

Dinerware is a point-of-sale system for hospitality and quick service. A Seattle restaurant POS that was bought for $15 million, absorbed twice, and whose website now points somewhere else entirely.

Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.

Dinerware was founded in 2000 in the Fremont neighbourhood of Seattle and sold through an authorised dealer network across North America and the UK, with partners in the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Heartland Payment Systems bought the company's stock on 11 February 2015 for a cash payment of $15.0 million — a figure that only became public later, in Heartland's annual filing, since the deal was announced as undisclosed.

It was one of five. Heartland folded Dinerware into a new Heartland Commerce unit alongside pcAmerica (bought 30 January 2015 for $15.0 million), Xpient, Leaf and Liquor POS, and then Digital Dining (30 October 2015, $18.7 million). The combined Heartland Commerce segment covered more than 90,000 customer locations. Ten months after buying Dinerware, Heartland agreed on 15 December 2015 to merge into Global Payments, at $53.28 cash plus 0.6687 Global shares per Heartland share.

Where it stands today: dinerware.com redirects to heartland.us, and heartland.us does not mention Dinerware anywhere — its POS line-up is listed as Restaurant, Retail, Terminal+, Mobile POS and Mobile Pay. No end-of-life date has ever been published, so we will not state one. But a product with no page on its owner's site is not one to build a new fitout around.
