Dogbox Accounting is a point-of-sale system for hospitality, professional services, retail and trades, built by Dogbox Software. accounting software for sole traders that happens to have a till in it, run by one person in regional NSW.

Certified on Linkly, running in the cloud. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs in the cloud.

Read the name literally: this is accounting software, and the point of sale is a module inside it. Dogbox Accounting covers invoicing, bills, bank reconciliation, BAS, payroll as an add-on, and POS. The genuinely unusual part is where the data lives — locally, in a .dbox file on your own machine, not in the cloud. It runs on Windows, Mac and Linux, there is a free tier, and Pro is $19 a month after a six-month trial. The target is tradies, small retailers and consultants.

Be clear-eyed about the scale. The business is a sole trader registration out of regional New South Wales, with the Dogbox trading name on the register only since 21 March 2026, though the underlying ABN dates to 2015. It is not GST registered. Contact is a Gmail address. There are two sister products, Dogbox Investments and an AI email client called Dogbox Mailman, which tells you this is one developer's portfolio rather than a POS company.

No reviews, no news coverage, no directory listings, no customer count — we searched and there is nothing. For a merchant the local-file approach is the real decision point: it means no monthly cloud dependency and your data stays yours, and it also means backups, recovery and continuity are entirely on you, with one person behind the software. If that suits how you work, the price is hard to argue with. If you need someone to answer the phone when a till goes down mid-trade, look elsewhere.
