ECI Spruce is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by ECI Software Solutions. Lumberyard and building-supply ERP from a Texas roll-up that has been passed between private equity firms three times.

Certified on Linkly, running in the cloud. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs in the cloud.

Spruce is a cloud ERP for lumberyards, home centres and building-supply dealers — point of sale with quoting, special orders and account pricing at the counter, real-time multi-branch inventory, barcode cycle counts, EDI vendor catalogues, general ledger, a customer portal for invoice payment, and delivery fleet management as an add-on. It sits inside ECI's LBM and Hardlines division and is sold in Australia and New Zealand to hardware and building supply retailers, electrical retailers and plumbing merchants, with testimonials from Monaro Timber, Chic Lumber and Timbertown.

ECI started in 1999 as OfficeSupplies.com and became a serial acquirer — 57 acquisitions by its own count, now 25,000-plus customers, 250,000 users and 2,100 staff across 20 offices. Ownership has turned over repeatedly: Carlyle and Level Equity sold to Apax in 2017 with Carlyle keeping a minority; Leonard Green took a majority in November 2020 with Apax retaining a minority (trade press cited a figure around US$2.5 billion, never confirmed); and in February 2025 Apax went back up to co-control alongside Leonard Green, with Singapore's GIC making a substantial new investment. No price has ever been officially disclosed for any of the three.

Two things worth knowing locally. ECI bought Pacsoft, the hardware-retail POS supplier with more than 500 organisations across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands, on 1 July 2019 — and acquired its UK Spruce distributor the following week. And in April 2018 it launched POS Assured, an offline mode for cloud POS users, which tells you what counter staff in a timber yard actually worry about.
