ELERA® Point-of-Sale is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions (Australia). The old IBM checkout business wearing a new badge, and it still runs more supermarket lanes than almost anyone.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions is IBM's former Retail Store Solutions division. IBM announced the sale to Toshiba TEC on 17 April 2012 for about US$850 million, with the first closing on 1 August 2012. RSS was turning over roughly US$1.15 billion in 2011 with about 1,000 staff worldwide. Toshiba TEC took 80.1% of the holding company and IBM kept 19.9% for three years before selling out; around 500 IBM people moved across into new subsidiaries in the US, Canada, Mexico and Australia. ELERA is the current name for the software line that came with it.

The niche is big grocery, and the numbers are enterprise-scale: Toshiba claims 2.6 million POS and self-checkout units installed worldwide, 220,000-plus shipped in 2025, over 2,000 staff and more than 120 countries. IDC MarketScape named it a Leader in worldwide point-of-sale software for grocery and food store retail in 2022. Named deployments include Albertsons rolling self-checkout across nearly 2,300 US stores, Weis Markets running ELERA across 197 stores and more than 2,500 checkout touchpoints, and Forever 21 across 16 countries.

In Australia the POS business is Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions (Australia) Pty Ltd, ABN 83 158 370 971, registered in May 2012 with a Victorian business location. Do not confuse it with Toshiba Tec's Australian print and copier operation, which is a different entity entirely. The clearest local reference is Romeo's Retail Group, the IGA operator with 41 stores across South Australia and New South Wales, running Toshiba TCx 700 terminals group-wide and ten self-checkout lanes at its Martin Place store in Sydney.
