Genie — practice software and bank compatibility

Genie is practice-management software for health and medical specialists. The specialist practice standard for thirty years — and owned by an infrastructure fund since 2017, which almost nobody using it realises.
Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.
Certified for multi-merchant. Tyro rates it a Premium partner — their top tier.
Genie was written in 1995 by Dr Paul Carr and became the most widely used practice and clinical software in Australian specialist medicine, on over 3,500 sites. In April 2017 IFM Investors — the fund manager owned by a group of Australian industry super funds — bought a majority stake, with the Carr family keeping a minority. Terms were never disclosed.
Since then the badge has changed too. Genie Solutions rebranded as Magentus and finished folding Genie into that group in November 2023. Magentus now runs practice management (Genie and the cloud product Gentu) alongside clinical systems for pathology, radiology, oncology and maternity, and it has kept buying — pathology platform Labflow among them. So the software on a specialist's desktop is a thirty-year-old product inside a consolidating health IT group backed by super fund money.
This is practice management, not a POS, and it earns its place here on the claiming rather than the card. For a specialist rooms the question is whether Medicare and the health funds settle cleanly against the consult and the procedure — not what the terminal costs. Tyro has it at Premium tier and tags it for medical specialists.

A POS reaches a bank through middleware. Each card below is one certified route; the banks it reaches are on the middleware page.
