Givex POS Retail is a point-of-sale system for general retail and retail. A Toronto gift-card company that grew a till on the side, then got taken off the TSX by Shift4 for C$200 million.
Tyro only. Tyro is its own middleware and its own acquirer, so this one comes with the bank attached — moving bank means a new integration.
Certified for pay at table, split bills and cash out.
Givex has been running loyalty and gift card technology since 1999 out of Toronto, and GivexPOS is the point-of-sale layer it built on top of that. By late 2024 the platform covered more than 132,000 active locations across over 100 countries, with the product set spanning gift cards, POS, loyalty programs and event ticketing. It was listed on the TSX as GIVX and on OTCQX as GIVXF.
Shift4 Payments made an all-cash offer on 26 August 2024 at C$1.50 a share, valuing Givex at about C$200 million fully diluted — a 55% premium to the C$0.97 close the Friday before. The deal completed at 12:01am Toronto time on 8 November 2024, with Shift4's subsidiary taking all 133,851,251 shares, and the TSX delisting followed within days.
Shift4 bought Revel the same year, so the same acquirer now holds two separate POS platforms it inherited. For an Australian merchant on GivexPOS, the useful question is not who built the software but who answers the phone, and the answer since November 2024 is a US-listed payments company with a stated habit of consolidating acquired product lines.
