HB Salon Software POS — bank compatibility

HB Salon Software is a point-of-sale system for hair and beauty and services. Hairware Beautyware, written in 1986 off the back of one Brisbane salon — it claims to be the first dedicated salon software in Australia.

HB Salon Software is the Hairware Beautyware system, and it dates to 1986. Daryl Lloyd built the first version after watching what running his wife Trish's salon actually involved, in Brisbane, and shipped it on floppy disks; the company calls it the first dedicated salon software system in Australia. It moved into new Australian ownership in 2010, describes itself as 100% Australian owned and operated, and is now based on the New South Wales Central Coast, with salons using it across Australia, New Zealand and Asia.

It is salon management rather than a general retail till — appointment book, online bookings, client contact forms and cards, stock, SMS on unlimited plans, automated marketing with Mailchimp, loyalty, BAS and accounting tools, over 100 reports, iPad and tablet support, and the point of sale sitting over the top. Around it sit HB GO, the mobile app, plus HB Pay and HB Queue.

For a salon the terminal only matters at one moment: the counter, after the service, when the total and any retail add-ons have to land on the card machine without being re-keyed. The integration list here covers purchases, refunds, receipts, reports and manual settlement, and manual settlement is the one worth asking about if you reconcile end-of-day by hand.
