IBIS is a point-of-sale system for entertainment and leisure and retail, built by IBIS Technologies. Queenstown-built tourism and attractions software that began life as a booking system for Shotover Jet.

Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.

The Linkly integration runs on premise.

Category correction first: IBIS POS is not a general retail or hospitality till. It is the point-of-sale module of a tourism and attractions management platform -- activity and tour reservations, gift vouchers, agent ticketing, admission and event tickets, online waiver forms, e-commerce and accounts integration. The customers are activity operators, visitor information centres, attractions and tour and transport businesses. Also note the vendor name is IBIS Technology, singular, not IBIS Technologies, and New Zealand's own accredited POS list carries it as "IBIS POS by IBIS Technology".

The origin story is a good one. The system began as a booking system built for Shotover Jet's scheduled-departure operation, after the jet boat company found what it had was not up to the job. Erik Bradshaw, then a young IT specialist, led it; he is now managing director and lead developer and co-owns the company with general manager Christine Ryan. Privately held, fully New Zealand owned, no outside investor and no acquisition on record. Head office Queenstown, with a Christchurch office opened in January 2008. A 2006 company release gives the founding as 1995 and called it New Zealand's only tourism software specialist, while the current site says "since 1998" -- both dates sit in sourced material, so take your pick carefully.

Scale, where it has been published and dated: over 100 tourism businesses by December 2006, moving roughly NZ$10 million a year of client transactions between booking agencies and operators; by 2008 more than 70% of the computerised systems at New Zealand's i-SITE visitor centres; and by 2020 the system of choice for the 77-member i-SITE network. Named customers run to Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools, Highlands Motorsport Park, AJ Hackett Bungy Taupo, Rotorua Canopy Tours, Southern Discoveries and Tekapo Springs. The Australian connection is ASX-listed Experience Co, which rolled it out across 15 skydiving businesses in Australia and New Zealand -- and be precise about this, it was a software supply agreement announced June 2020, not an acquisition and not an equity stake. Then-CEO John O'Sullivan: "we chose IBIS because of its integrated 'whole business' functionality and 22 years of committed customer support."
