iDesign (bespoke for Coco Republic) POS — bank compatibility

Point-of-sale system by Coco Republic · All point-of-sale systems

iDesign (bespoke for Coco Republic) is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Coco Republic. Not a product you can buy — it's the bespoke till one Australian furniture retailer had built for itself and then certified.

Certified on mx51, which is the engine behind several banks’ own terminal offerings rather than something a merchant buys by name.

The mx51 integration uses SPI JavaScript and was last certified in June 2022, on Browser.

iDesign is custom software written for Coco Republic. It appears in the integration directory because the retailer put its own system through certification against the terminal, not because anyone else can licence it. If you are shopping for a POS, this record is a dead end — though it's useful evidence that a mid-sized retailer can get a bespoke system certified rather than being forced onto a packaged product.

Coco Republic itself is worth knowing. Paul Spon-Smith started Mr Smith Interiors in Pymble, Sydney, in 1979 and opened the first showroom in Crows Nest in 1984 under the Town & Country Living name; it was rebranded Coco Republic in 2002. It ran as a family business — Paul as founder and chairman, Anthony Spon-Smith as an executive director — until October 2021, when US private equity firm Story3 Capital Partners took a majority stake. It runs around 17 stores: 15 showrooms across Australia and New Zealand, including an Auckland store at Westfield Newmarket opened in 2019, and two in the United States, in Los Angeles and Orange County, after entering that market through Californian retailer HD Buttercup.
