Impos Front Office is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Impos Solutions International. Born in the Melbourne nightclub scene in 2005, and now one of more than 80 software companies owned by a Canadian roll-up.

Sean O'Meara started building POS systems in October 2005 after working in Melbourne's nightclub scene and finding nothing fast or robust enough for a busy bar. Impos grew out of that into one of Australia's better-known hospitality POS brands — head office on St Kilda Road, offices in every mainland capital, and a client list it describes as including 23 of Australia's Top 100 Restaurants and half the country's award-winning bars.

Jonas Software announced it had acquired Impos Solutions International on 12 November 2019. At that point Impos was in more than 2,700 venues across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands; it now claims over 3,000. Jonas is a subsidiary of Constellation Software (TSX: CSU), the Canadian acquirer that buys vertical software businesses and holds them indefinitely — a group with a market capitalisation above CA$20 billion that operates more than 80 software companies. Andrew Paynter stayed on as CEO, and O'Meara moved his focus to Doshii.

One correction worth making because the market gets it wrong: MYOB never owned Impos. MYOB appears on the Impos integrations list as accounting software and nothing more. The MYOB point-of-sale investment people are remembering was a minority stake in Kounta, back in 2014.
