Certified on Linkly, running on premise. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.
The Linkly integration runs on premise.
Kemp & Denning was founded in Hobart in 1902 by Andrew Garrington Kemp and Victor Ernest Denning, as timber merchants. Kemp bought out Denning's interest in 1917 and the Kemp family ran it from there; it became an unlisted public company in 1963 and by 2004 had more than 600 shareholders, some of them fifth-generation Kemps. It was never a wholesaler in the usual sense — it was a building supplies and hardware retailer and trade merchant that also manufactured bricks and pavers through the Hobart Brick Company, which it took control of in 1936. It has two genuine firsts to its name: Tasmania's first tunnel kiln for fired clay bricks and pavers in 1975, and in 1986 what both the UTAS Companion to Tasmanian History and the Tasmanian Archives call Australia's first home and building retail warehouse. It was Mitre 10 affiliated from 1990 until July 2015, and in January 2014 had about 300 employees across six Tasmanian stores.
The wind-down took a decade. The New Town brickworks closed in 2012, with managing director Peter Geard citing up to $2 million in coming environmental compliance costs and calling it neither financially viable nor sustainable. The board invited expressions of interest for the whole chain in January 2014. Clennett's acquired K&D Trade, the southern Tasmanian trade division including the Glenorchy site, in June 2017. The Hobart CBD block went to the University of Tasmania for $30 million in 2019 with a two-year leaseback, by which point the Cambridge, Devonport, Glenorchy and Kingston stores had closed. Members resolved on a voluntary liquidation on 29 May 2020 — a solvent wind-up rather than a collapse — with Paul John Cook appointed liquidator, and the ABN was cancelled on 18 March 2022. UTAS later shelved its campus plan and sold the block to the Tony White Group for $31 million in October 2025. If you find this vendor on a live comparison page, it has not existed for six years.
