MacPOS is a point-of-sale system for retail, built by Crossman Software. An American Mac-only POS house that has been at it since 1984 — longer than most of this market has existed.
Certified on Linkly, running in the cloud. Linkly reaches more acquirers than any other middleware in the market, which is why most POS start there.
The Linkly integration runs in the cloud.
Crossman Software is based in Erie, Pennsylvania, and says it has been designing Macintosh point-of-sale software since 1984. That is not a typo: this is a company that was writing POS for the original Mac and never moved off the platform. The product in its later form is MacPOSX, sold in a Pro edition.
What it does is conventional retail — inventory management, UPC scanning, barcode printing, an optional touchscreen interface and display poles — with web-based selling added later and card processing handled through Parallel Software's AuthPayX rather than in-house. The company's own pitch is a significantly lower price of entry than the alternatives, and it has historically run a free trial download rather than a sales process.
For an Australian merchant the thing to weigh is not the software but the support base. A US vendor with a Mac-only product means a very thin bench of local technicians, whatever the product does well. If you are already an all-Mac business it may be exactly right; if you are not, there is no reason to start here.
